Sing beyond the shower with City Choir Dunedin

Would you like to sing in a choir, but lack confidence in your musical ability? City Choir Dunedin is offering a chance for you to improve your vocal skills, and develop your music-reading ability.

Over five weeks on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm, beginning on 23 September, we are offering small-group workshops in understanding musical notation, and in using your voice well.

For the last part of the evening there will be a chance to join in with the choir’s rehearsal – we will be preparing Handel’s Messiah  and to meet members of the choir.

The coaches will be the choir’s assistant conductor Mark Anderson, and local singer and teacher Benjamin Madden.

The sessions are free, and if you enjoy them and find them beneficial, we hope you will consider joining City Choir Dunedin. We are offering free membership up until Christmas, including the opportunity to sing Messiah, for those who attend the training workshops. Singing in Messiah will be subject to passing the choir’s usual brief audition. Messiah will be performed on Saturday 29 November in the Dunedin Town Hall, accompanied by the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.

These workshops are principally aimed at men, but anyone is welcome.

City Choir Dunedin is Dunedin’s principal choir for the performance of large-scale classical choral works. We frequently perform with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and perform some of the best music for voices from the early baroque to the present day.

Please let us know if you are interested in the workshops by emailing Alison Tait at members@citychoirdunedin.org.nz
