More about the Sinfonia Antartica DVD

This unique programme was created to accompany Ralph Vaughan Williams’ dramatic score, performed here by the NZSO and conducted by James Judd. Featuring rarely-seen historic film plus spectacular time-lapse and underwater footage, critically acclaimed Sinfonia Antartica showcases the frozen continent in all its glory.

This film tells the story of the golden age of Antarctic exploration. Through rare footage and fascinating images, share in the adventure, discoveries, failures and triumphs of Amundsden, Scott, Shackleton, Fuchs, Hillary and others.

An inspiring artistic odyssey around Antarctica with three artists who capture the character of the frozen continent in their work. Two poets and a painter respond with an outpouring of poems and paintings.

3 x 50 minutes, produced by NHNZ Ltd, Dunedin
